Childhood Memories

Bermuda Short Fiasco: Comedy & Sports

Burmuda Shorts
It was Gameday (and picture day). I don’t recall many details of the story but I do recall a few:

I was never issued Team-Yellow-Shorts. For some reason, I was the only kid that did not score a uniform pair at the onset of the 1989 Soccer Season. Not scoring shorts did not stop me from scoring goals!

In lieu of Team-Yellow, I had a drawer full of Bermuda-over-the-knee-style shorts that were hand made from a variety of bulk purchased cotton JoAnn Fabrics. The neon pair (scratched out in the picture above) were a classic…neon yellow, pink and green vertical stripes. They were hot streaking up and down the field.
Really, I was so embarrased when I was a kid (about being pictured in these shorts) that I scratched out the photo to hide them. At the time: devastating. In hindsight: comedy.

1. My name on the soccer field was “Lightning.”

2. The pink X matches my shorts perfectly.
