Arctic Blast 2008
As with most of the upper US, Portland is currently covered in a white blanket. It’s been an interesting couple of days for me personally as well as for those around me. Along these lines, it’s been interesting to watch the psychological shift in people’s demeanor. Five days ago there was glee and merriment surrounding the newly welcomed snowfall, today, five days later, I am starting to hear discontent in dialogue. I am starting to sense frustration. Five days ago, everyone in my online/social networks was hooraying for the snow… everyone was so excited to miss work… everyone was looking forward to hunkering down and cuddling up near hot fire. Today, as Xmas approaches, as travel plans are being compromised, as power is going out and as cabin fever is setting in, the once loved snow is now being hated upon. I just laugh; people are so fickle. We love you snow… no, wait, we hate you snow… come snow, go away, come back, etc.
I personally enjoy the snow- It reminds of me childhood spent in a cold Wyoming.
I find it very pretty and crisp. I find it dreamy and a bit surreal.
Below are some white-themed images taken from my 6 hour walk today…
