The story of db clay

db clay inside Nordstrom.

Nordstrom first picked up our wallets back in 2005 for six of their West Coast stores. During this diaper era of ours, we were offering Version 1 and soon after, Version 2 wallets. We have since moved on to Version 3 wallets and we have now expanded to 35 Nordstrom stores nationwide. A lot has changed and happened since 2005 and the wallets pictured below can now be found in our dead billfolds archive (they are long gone). Let’s consider them stepping stones and learning curves and early signs of greater things to come.

Our old Burnside Studio pictured here (before we moved the shop into my house): notice the white grid racks in the background. We eventually cut these up with saws and made them into the clunky Point of Purchase displays pictured above.

We quickly outgrew Burnside and ended up in my house back in 2005; I will never forget this time of my life. I was living, sleeping and eating db clay. I couldn’t escape it nor wanted to. Thankfully, we have since moved the business out of my house which was the best thing I ever did for my head.

When we first landed Nordstrom, I excitedly made the decision to visit all of our new stores and give presentations to the sales staffs at each. I introduced our brand to them as well as educated the sales staffs on how to best “sell” our product. I learned a lot from these visits.
