Office Forum Discussion
Last night, I walked about 29 blocks to attend a forum discussion being held at a boutique called OFFICE PDX in N Portland; the topic of discussion was “engineering creative solutions during an economic downturn.” There were three *guest panelists, a moderator, and also follow-up Q&A from the audience.
As far as Q&A goes, I took the opportunity to ask a question. More or less, my question was: Generally speaking, how has Technology affected your business? – more specifically – for example, Laika custom scripting their own 3-D modeling software to gain efficiency and reduce production lead times… or Skylab choosing to diversify their architecture business to include a tangible product line as well (pre fab modular homes)… or Nike, and how they’ve been impacted by the downturn in Brick and Mortar Retail… I capped my technology question more specifically, with expressions such as “the rise of the Internet” and “the old industrial economy dying and the new economy emerging…” – each gave me an answer based on their industry.
*panelists Michael Shea, Creative Director of Nike; Nicholas Weigel, Director of Laika/house; and Jeff Kovel, Founder of Skylab Architecture.
