OLD THINGS
(WHAT’S NEW WAS NEVER MINE)
by Tyler Stenson
………………………………………….

I remember living there- remember me?
Nothing fills your heart like history.
There is room for little space
And all of our hearts can be replaced
So we traded in the birch for the pine trees
And the evergreens.
New things always shine but
They don’t make them anymore like the old things.
I remember loving you- remember me?
Nothing fills your heart like history.
There is room for little space
And all of our hearts can be replaced
But she will always be so close to me.
New things always shine but
They don’t make them anymore like the old things.
What is new was never mine
So I feel nothing really shines like the old things.

ol’ Silver Eyes

Garett Car Subaru Snowed In

Due to the recent ice/snow storm here in Portland me car has been stranded in SW for about a week; conditions being too treacherous to drive and not worth the risk. But today, the day before I fly out to go visit the famn for Xmas, I had to go retrieve ol’ Silver Eyes as to avoid accumulation of parking tickets in my absence once the snow melts. Videos below document me journey across town today:

Took the bus part of the way, got off, walked about an hour through the city…

Found me car buried in snow and a layer of ice…

Once unburied and defrosted I hopped in and made it home safely- cheers to Subaru for making great all wheel drive cars.

Portland Snow Wallets Garett db clay

As with most of the upper US, Portland is currently covered in a white blanket. It’s been an interesting couple of days for me personally as well as for those around me. Along these lines, it’s been interesting to watch the psychological shift in people’s demeanor. Five days ago there was glee and merriment surrounding the newly welcomed snowfall, today, five days later, I am starting to hear discontent in dialogue. I am starting to sense frustration. Five days ago, everyone in my online/social networks was hooraying for the snow… everyone was so excited to miss work… everyone was looking forward to hunkering down and cuddling up near hot fire. Today, as Xmas approaches, as travel plans are being compromised, as power is going out and as cabin fever is setting in, the once loved snow is now being hated upon. I just laugh; people are so fickle. We love you snow… no, wait, we hate you snow… come snow, go away, come back, etc.

I personally enjoy the snow- It reminds of me childhood spent in a cold Wyoming.
I find it very pretty and crisp. I find it dreamy and a bit surreal.

Below are some white-themed images taken from my 6 hour walk today…

Walking

Restaurant on Mississippi

Back in November of 2005 I was living and working out my home in N Portland. Often, cabin fever would take hold of me and I had to get out and go for a walk. Often, while walking, I’d duck into shops, restaurants, etc and get a bite, a tea, or simply just be some place other than my house for a while. One night, I stopped in at a restaurant on Mississippi Street- I don’t believe it is there anymore… but before they closed shop, I stopped in this place, had a great meal, and took the kitchen pics below.

I think I freaked the chef out. I think he thought I was doing a restaurant review or something for a magazine. After all, I had a camera out and I was jotting ideas in my sketchbook while he cooked. For all he knew, I was scouting the place out for my story and his culinary reputation was at stake. Little did he know, I was just some crazy bum who happened in because I was getting restless at my house and my mind was filled with ideas that needed to be jotted down on paper or lost. However, if I would have been writing a review, it would have been good.

Walking

Clothes and hair coming off

Me weekend was filled with a variety of life experiences. The peak was prolly’ attending my 10-year High School Reunion on Saturday. Below are some other random highlights that happened to me:
Hair
I watched/studied a lot of the “Bailout” discussions. Indeed, these are wild times. Image above represents what our country looks like right now from my view. According to my pal Bruce, “we are a wet rag being rung out right now.”
Hair
I went for some long walks on Saturday and Sunday. The weather was so pretty in Portland. The sun is shining but at the same time, leaves are falling. Oddly enough, I happened across a lot of abandoned clothes on my journey through town. For some reason, there was exorbitant amount of clothes left on the street. Above is a pink jacket I walked by…
Hair
Above is a blue shoe I walked by.
Hair
Above is a gray sock I walked by.
Hair
Above is my hair in a Ziploc bag. You see, on Sunday evening, I shaved my head, to start anew, and I kept my brown clippings for some future DNA testing.
